Happy Earth Day – Landscape Photography

Ever since I’ve been carrying a point and shoot camera with me on runs, I’m much more likely to take a random shot of something than I was when I was just using my iPhone. A few weeks ago I noticed a beautiful egret and only got a few shots of its reflection in the water before it flew off, not giving me the chance to photograph the bird and the reflection together as I wanted to. While I still think it’s a good photo, the whole bird and reflection would have been optimal. It does however, remind me of the message of Earth Day. We have this beautiful planet and one shot to take care of parts of it, or they will disappear before our eyes as well.

Topical Tuesday (23)

On April 19, 2009, I ran my first half marathon, the Santa Cruz Half Marathon and 10K. I had chosen that race as I loved the city, and as it was the birthdate of my late dad who loved running, and only later did I find out that it also happened to be the official marathon race the running group I would later join was running as well. That day was hot and humid, and I definitely felt a real accomplishment as I did it. I wanted to run it again this year to commemorate it on April 11th, unfortunately I registered too late and could only get into the 10K. So I came up with another way to commemorate my first long race: I’d run a 5K, a 10K and then a half marathon, all within a series of 8 days.

Congratulations Joe and Heather! (One Year Anniversary)

Today is the one year anniversary of Heather and Joe whose wedding I photographed last year. It is also the anniversary of the first half-marathon I ever ran, the Santa Cruz Half Marathon and 10K and finished a few hours before their wedding. It was the first, and to date the only wedding I ever photographed the same day as a major race (over 6 miles).

Sam Liccardo: Birthday Party and Re-election Kickoff Party

A few weeks ago a received a call from Lisa Jensen, Councilman Sam Liccardo’s campaign manager. I’d taken photos of Sam in costume at The Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, at the time not recognizing him as the Councilman of my district (probably as I was in the pre-race zone), and she after finding them on this blog, wanted to use them for his birthday cake for his combination birthday party and re-election kick off party. I was thrilled to help out, being a fan of Sam’s work, by letting them be an in-kind campaign contribution. View full post »

Easter Brunch at Fremont Hilton with The Magnolia Jazz Band

Today my best friend, Colleen, and I had opportunity to celebrate Easter, enjoy a great meal and hear wondeful music all at once. There were actually two brunches held at The Fremont Hilton today, one at the Ginger Bar Restaurant, and a second in the ballroom with colorful tables and a buffet with Easter decorations all over.

While the brunches featured the same food, we had a lot of fun at the latter which included wonderful music from The Magnolia Jazz Band. Colleen felt inspired to dance with the Easter Bunny.
