Debbie Lyn’s Costumes – Not Just a Prop, It’s an Attitude

I love costumes and costume shops. Over the last two years I’ve needed several costumes including two different Princess Fiona outfits (one a warrior version worn at the 100th Bay to Breakers last year, and one other the long regal princess dress version) and a Magenta costume for a special showing of Rocky Horror all bought from Debbie Lyn’s Costumes in Santa Clara.

So it was especially fun to hear the owner of the store, Debbie Owens, give a presentation to the Genuine Networking Association’s Mastermind meeting on how to use props to stand out at meetings and trade shows. I’d never worn a prop (camera around my neck nonwithstanding) to get attention, though I have enjoyed wearing a simple black hat occasionally for a special night out. Everyone had to choose a prop randomly from a large bag, put it on and do a mini presentation. It was a lot of fun and produced moments of glee like this one.

In a few weeks Debbie Owens’ staff and I will be working on a special photo shoot with costumes, looking forward to posting the results here.
