Corona Heights & Sutro Baths Night Photography

The photography Meetups I have attended recently have greatly helped expand my knowledge of new places to shoot. I signed up for the most recent Night Photography Meetup only knowing it would be on a tall hill with a view in San Francisco, and only a few days before it was to take place was the location emailed to the participants, Corona Heights Park. Ironically, a very foggy night ended up rerouting the group, so after a short time photographing the beautiful view, we head to The Sutro Baths which were lit by the lights of The Cliff House, in addition to the natural star and moonlight.

While on top of the hill we could see for miles. Intricate houses and commercial buildings of all colors, sizes and structures, were visable until the fog came down. Our group stayed until the setting of the sun.

Though I’d seen The Cliff House from the outside, and even run past it in training runs, I’d not known about The Sutro Baths. To get close enough to the ocean and The Cliff House for the most amount of light, we had to walk across concrete beams perhaps two feet wide while watching our steps and carrying flashlights. At times like these I am particularly glad to have lightweight gear. Although it was a tiny bit scary to balance on these structures, I do like the photos I got from my adventure.
